All starters will carry 121 pounds in the one-mile dirt race, which is filled with tactical speed.
Fantasy Stakes (G2) winner Round Pond, who has won her last three starts by a combined 18 lengths, could be the favorite, but bettors may have trouble separating a field in which five of the six runners already are graded stakes winners and all have three career wins each.
Like Round Pond, John Oxley’s Seek a Star comes in with three straight wins. Most recently, the John Ward trainee posted a 2 ¾-length win in the La Troienne Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs on May 5.
Live Oak Plantation’s In the Gold won the Stonerside Beaumont Stakes (G2) at Keeneland Race Course on April 14 and then finished second behind Summerly in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill on May 6.
Yet another graded stakes winner–Chester and Mary Broman’s homebred Seeking the Ante–took top honors in the Nassau County Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2) at Belmont on May 7 in her last start.
Peter Vegso’s homebred Splendid Blended, who will make her three-year-old debut in the Acorn, comes off the shelf for her first start since winning the Hollywood Starlet (G1) on December 19.
The daughter of Unbridled’s Song had three wins and a second from four starts as a two-year-old for trainer Neil Drysdale.
The lone non-graded stakes winner in the field is Ogden Phipps’s homebred Smuggler. A winner of three of four career races, Smuggler is by Unbridled out of 1995 champion older female Inside Information.
